The motorcycle-inspired e-bike that redefined urban riding. Fat tires, raw torque, and a cult following for a reason. Everything you need to choose, buy, and ride one
WHAT IS A SUPER73 ELECTRIC BIKE?
Super73 is a Californian brand that builds high-performance fat-tire e-bikes styled after 1970s motocross bikes. Founded in 2016, the company has grown into one of the most recognizable names in the electric bike market—not because it’s the cheapest option, but because it occupies a category almost entirely its own: lifestyle electric motorcycle.
Unlike standard commuter e-bikes, Super73 bikes prioritize torque, aesthetics, and riding feel. The wide chassis, long bench seat, and knobby tires give each model a distinct presence on the road—one that’s attracted fans, including celebrities, athletes, and urban riders who want a machine that makes a statement.
Super73 bikes are classified as electric bicycles (Class 2, throttle-assisted) in street mode, making them legal to ride in most US states without a motorcycle license. Switch to off-road mode and the performance jumps considerably.
SUPER 73 VS. STANDARD E-BIKES
Super73 fills the gap between a traditional pedal-assist commuter bicycle and a full electric motorcycle. Key differences:
→ Frame geometry: Moto-inspired low-slung frame vs upright bicycle posture → Tires: 4″ fat tires for grip and stability vs thin commuter tires → Power: Up to 2000W peak vs 250–750W on most commuters → Weight: 60–80 lbs vs 40–55 lbs for most commuter e-bikes → Identity: Lifestyle and recreation first, commuting second
Super 73 electric bikes operate in multiple speed modes, each designed for different legal and riding contexts. Understanding these modes is essential before you buy — especially if you plan to ride on public roads.
In Class 2 mode, the bike is throttle-assisted and capped at 20 mph — the legal limit for e-bikes in most US states. No motorcycle license is required in this mode. In Off-Road mode, available via the Super73 app, speed rises to 28 mph on models like the RX and S2. This mode is intended strictly for private property and off-road use.
Acceleration is a genuine strength. Compared to typical commuter e-bikes, Super73 bikes feel punchy and responsive off the line — a direct result of the high-torque hub motors and throttle-first design. super 73 electric bike price

Super73 advertises 35–75 miles depending on the model. Real-world figures from riders typically land at 45–60 miles under mixed conditions. Range is affected by:
▸ Riding mode: Throttle-only riding reduces range significantly versus pedal assist. ▸ Rider weight: Heavier riders see proportionally reduced range ▸ Terrain: Hills and gravel surfaces drain the battery faster ▸ Speed: Consistently riding at top speed cuts range considerably ▸ Temperature: Cold weather can reduce lithium battery output by 10–20% CHARGING & BATTERY LIFE
Super73 uses lithium-ion battery packs that are IPX5 water-resistant. Key battery facts:
▸ Charge cycles: 500–1,000 full cycles (3–5+ years with normal use) ▸ Standard charge time: Approximately 4–6 hours from flat ▸ Removable battery: Available on MZFT and select models for indoor charging ▸ Dual battery: MZFT supports an optional second pack for up to 40 miles
IS THE SUPER 73 STREET LEGAL?
In the United States, Super73 bikes operate as Class 2 electric bicycles in their default configuration — throttle-assisted, capped at 20 mph. Class 2 e-bikes are legal to ride on bike paths, bike lanes, and roads in the vast majority of US states without a motorcycle license, registration, or insurance. super 73 electric bike for sale
When you unlock off-road mode through the app (enabling speeds up to 28 mph), the bike is no longer classified as a Class 2 e-bike and should only be used on private property or dedicated off-road trails where applicable.
In the European Union and UK, e-bike regulations are stricter: top speed is capped at 25 km/h (15.5 mph) and pedal assistance is mandatory. Super73 sells EU-compliant variants of its bikes for these markets.
Always verify local regulations in your city or state — laws around e-bike classes, trail access, and age requirements vary. SAFETY ESSENTIALS
At the performance levels Super73 bikes reach, protective gear is more than a recommendation: → Certified helmet (MIPS recommended at 25+ mph) → Gloves for grip and abrasion protection → Knee and elbow pads for off-road riding → Lights front and rear for low-visibility riding → High-visibility jacket or vest for road use The Super73 RX and S2 weigh 60–80 lbs and carry significant kinetic energy at speed. Treat them with the same respect you’d give a moped.

We recently had a controller go out on one of our Super 73s. We contacted their customer service team and Sherwin was easy and responsive. They shipped us a new controller (for a small fee) very promptly. We are satisfied with the overall experience and we appreciate the help!

My experience at the Super73 showroom in Orange County was fantastic! The staff was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, making the process of buying my new e-bike smooth and enjoyable. They answered all my questions, let me take a test ride, and helped me find the perfect bike for my needs. The store itself is well-organized and showcases their products beautifully. I highly recommend visiting this showroom if you're in the market for a Super73!
